In July 2017, we visited Ghana to learn more about the challenges faced by children with cancer.
In Ghana, children with cancer have no access to free medical care. So, they need to pay for it. Pay for the diagnosis, for the specialists, for the treatment, for everything.
In a country with only three paediatric oncologists and two hospitals capable of offering cancer treatment, families living in poverty need to travel up to 17 hours just to be seen by a doctor.
Between 2018 and 2019, and in partnership with World Child Cancer and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, we interviewed over 200 families and children with cancer.
The result was a report that helped all organisations involved understand the challenges families face and how best they can be supported.
